The ever-popular Channel 4 series Big Fat Gyspy Weddings returned for a second series on UK screens last night (February 14, 2012) and drew some impressive audience figures. According to a report from The Guardian, Big Fat Gypsy Weddings drew in 5.7 million viewers, over its original 9pm airing on Channel 4 and its 10pm airing on Channel 4+1. This represents a 23.4% share of viewer figures for the slot.

The show was pitched against the BBC’s Junior Doctors series which, although popular, perhaps lacks the shock factor of seeing a bride-to be dressed up in a dress that most likely cost thousands to make and is modelled on a palm tree, whilst her maid of honour struggles to get into a limousine bearing a similar garment based on a pineapple – which is what Big Fat Gypsy Weddings provided last night. It also performed well against the BBC drama Prisoner’s Wives which, at its midway point in the series, attracted a 17.3% share of the market with 4.2 million viewers. And ITV’s Biggest Loser turned out to be just that, with just 2.3 million viewers, representing a 9.6% share.

It’s not all good news for Channel 4 though. Despite sitting comfortably at the top of last night’s ratings, the season opener under-performed in comparison to last year’s, which attracted 6.36 million viewers. Given that the subject matter of the show tends to have remained fairly static (outlandish wedding dresses, young girls dancing in a provocative manner and a repeated refusal to discuss how much their lavish betrothals actually cost ) interest in the series may well be starting to wane. Or perhaps, with it being Valentines night, fewer people had stayed at home to watch TV.

Sienna Miller looks like she’s well on the way to having her first child with boyfriend Tom Sturridge after first pictures of her sporting a bump were revealed, according to The Press Association. Miller was attending The Ever Changing Face of Beauty bash at New York’s Park Avenue Armory hotel and looked resplendent in a long, tight-fit, high-necked black gown. There are rumors that she and Sturridge are now engaged although neither have been forward on the matter themselves; it’s pleasant at least see Miller happy given the disappointing end of her hugely documented relationship to fellow actor Jude Law.

In an interview last year, Miller had enthused about how much she was looking forward to having a child and settling down with her life, saying “I can’t wait to be seen as a woman. But I know I probably have to contribute to that with behaviour,” and adding, “I think, if you put a camera in anyone’s life and document it daily from the age of 21 to 27, there are going to be things that aren’t always pretty. Now, I’m much more calm. It feels like a new, more serious decade.”

Among the other guests at the New York bash were Cate Blanchett, Olivia Palermo and EVAN RACHEL WOOD.

Actor Ray Romano’s wife has won her battle with breast cancer.

Anna Romano was diagnosed with stage one cancer in February, 2010 after medics discovered a lump in her right breast during a routine mammogram.

The 48 year old underwent four rounds of chemotherapy to combat the disease and she admits going bald took a toll on her self-esteem.

Anna tells People magazine, “I’m already shy and the last thing I wanted to do was walk around bald.”

The mum of four went on to make a full recovery and Anna insists her bout with cancer has taught her to put herself first: “I take on everybody’s stress, but this had to be all about me. I’m not like that!”

The Everybody Loves Raymond star kept his wife’s health crisis a secret but the couple is now going public with the news in a bid to provide hope to fellow patients and survivors.

He adds, “We dodged a bullet. Now we want to give back.”

The pair is parents to Ally, 21, twins Greg and Matt, 19, and Joe, 14.

Oprah Winfrey has come under fire after she appeared to beg her 9 million Twitter users to tune into her new show. Though celebrities endorsing their affiliated shows and products on the micro-blogging site are frowned upon, the retired talk-show queen “especially” asked those who had a Nielsen Box to tune in.

Nielsen is the audience measurement company who sample around 25,000 households across the United States to record viewing habits. Just minutes before her show ‘Oprah’s Next Chapter’ was about to begin on Sunday (February 12, 2012), Winfrey tweeted, “Every 1 who can please turn to Own especially if you have a Neilsen box (sic)”. A spokesperson for Nielsen immediately issued a statement concerning policy violation, saying, “”In accordance with our policies and procedures, Nielsen is reviewing this incident with our clients, and we may withhold, breakout and/or make a note in the ratings.We take any violation of our policy seriously and will work with clients to resolve the situation”. The tweet has since disappeared from Oprah’s page and she later issued an apology of her own, saying. “I removed the tweet at the request of Nielsen.I intended no harm and apologize for the reference”. According to the Los Angeles Times, it’s the first time Winfrey has directly mentioned Nielsen, though she regularly reminds her followers to tune into her network, Own.

The Twitter plea may have had something to do with the Grammy Awards, which was also broadcast on Sunday evening, trampling all its competition. The annual awards ceremony was watched by 39.9 million viewers – the biggest audience since 1984 when Michael Jackson was awarded for his seminal Thriller album.

Mike & Molly star Billy Gardell gave his wife a Valentine’s Day to remember – he bought her a house.

The Bad Santa funnyman purchased his very first home and handed the keys to his longtime spouse Patty as a present.

He says, “Valentine’s Day was good. I bought her a house… Unbelievable. First house. I never thought I’d have bricks under my feet. Especially this kind of house. I grew up in an alleyway in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania), I’ve been in a one-bedroom apartment for 15 years. And I got to buy this house and I literally walk around and wait for the owners to come home and go, ‘Listen, thanks for house-sitting, now get the hell out of here.’”

And Gardell admits he’s still trying to impress his new neighbours – although he fears his hot rod motorcycle may soon be disturbing the peace.

He adds, “I’m white trash so I got to ease on the neighbours… I brought the hot rod over… I wanted them to think we were decent people before, ya know, 7am and (they hear the engine roaring).”

Rapper/actor Bow Wow is unfazed by reports he’s a wanted man after a Georgia judge released an order for police to arrest him on sight over the weekend (03-05Feb12).

The Like You hitmaker, real name Shad Moss, is charged with being in contempt after failing to obey a 2009 Tennessee court order demanding he hand over almost $100,000 (£62,500) to a tourbus company to settle an unpaid bill.

The firm’s bosses took the case to Georgia, where Bow Wow now lives, to enforce the order and a judge recently told state law officials to take the star into custody until he could produce documents and information regarding the case.

The 24 year old, who has yet to be arrested, is due to perform in France on Tuesday (07Feb12) and Bow Wow is confident the legal news won’t interfere with his tour plans.

The defiant rapper took to Twitter.com on Monday (06Feb12) and posted a screen grab from one of his films, depicting him sitting in a jail cell, alongside the caption: “Been here before…. Haha”.

He added, “All i know is im (sic) on a World Tour and i gotta sold out show in Paris France tomar (tomorrow). All they (sic) doing is making my album gain momentum.”
